Since the mid-90’s, IT at Ford Motor Company has had two key tasks: supporting the running of the company and keeping abreast of advancements in technology.

As Ford’s focus shifted to connected vehicles and e-mobility, the IT organization has become integral to the manufacturing, marketing, and product development of vehicles. In the next decade, the degree of this integration is expected to dramatically increase.

The biggest challenge has become the isolation of the areas with growing amounts of the data related to the technology that supports the running of the company (e.g., mainframes, Intel Servers, and applications).

This has resulted in major inefficiencies in both the speed of delivery of IT services and the costs of those services. Increasing pressures to reduce both have now forced Ford IT to address the issues related to IT data and implement an automated end-to-end process for data creation, management, and use.

This presentation summarizes our experience in providing solutions to the above challenges by establishing a single source of IT data, forming efficient data governance processes, and ensuring consistent usage of the data by various data consumer organizations across global enterprise.
