SESSION

Some Hard-won Advice on Avoiding Data Chaos
Track: Governance
Jim McMahon, EAM Process Global Architect, Shell

What does the pedigree for your data organization look like? Was it left for you by implementation partners and consultants who suddenly vanished shortly after go-live? Maybe it has just “always been there”, created by unknown folks in the dim past? Does your data collection process look like an old “I Love Lucy” clip with candy streaming out on a conveyor? It is not too late to bring some order to your data chaos.

This presentation will look at some basic data governance principles and techniques. We will look at a use case for one of the most common EAM master data components, the equipment master record. We will talk about some useful practices for defining, configuring, and enhancing usage of these records, including suggestions for useful supporting documents which will make the life of everyone associated with using these records much easier.
