SESSION Enabling Corporate Failure Metrics at Nexen Energy with ISO 14224 Track: Accuracy Ramesh Vora, SAP Staff Specialist Work ProcessesNexen Energy ULC Tony Ciliberti, Principal Engineer, Reliability Dynamics LLC This presentation describes Nexen Energy’s pathway in using international standard ISO 14224 methods to enable better decision-making for equipment assets. The pathway began in 2006 with the implementation of ISO 14224 coding for failure notations and has evolved into an ISO 14224-compliant taxonomy and failure reporting process. Ramesh Vora, from the Nexen Long Lake facility, will describe the process of implementing an ISO 14224 taxonomy structure, key learnings, and business benefits derived from those changes. While the ISO 14224 failure coding process helped standardize field input, data issues remained that precluded meaningful corporate failure metrics. Additionally, users complained about inconsistent equipment data in disparate data repositories, difficulty in navigating the SAP functional location structure, excessively long tag numbers, and inconsistent structuring rationale. To address these issues, Nexen made the following changes: 1. Made SAP the source of record for most technical tags 2. Implemented an ISO 14224 compliant technical taxonomy structuring methodology for Canadian Assets 3. Added taxonomic level validations to the malfunction report form |
